Autumn is a great time to travel. As the summer rush winds down, many destinations become quieter, more relaxed, and easier to explore. For airline crew, it’s also the perfect opportunity to take a breath, enjoy a day off, and escape before the next busy season begins.
Whether you’re looking for autumn colors, dramatic landscapes, or a little sunshine, there are plenty of destinations worth exploring.
Here are three of our favorite autumn escapes.
Reykjavík
Autumn is a beautiful time to visit Reykjavík. Cooler days, fewer crowds, and the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights make Iceland an exciting non-rev destination. Take a walk along the coastline, explore the surrounding landscapes, or relax in one of Iceland’s geothermal pools.
Great photo spots: Grótta Lighthouse, Harpa Concert Hall, and Þingvellir National Park.
Edinburgh
Edinburgh comes alive with autumn colors. Golden parks, historic streets, cozy cafés, and dramatic views make it a perfect city for a relaxed day off.
Take a walk through Holyrood Park, explore Dean Village, or head up Calton Hill for some great views over the city.
Great photo spots: Calton Hill, Dean Village, and Edinburgh Castle.
Looking for a little more sunshine? Lisbon offers mild autumn weather, colorful streets, beautiful viewpoints, and plenty of opportunities to explore at your own pace.
Wander through Alfama, hop on Tram 28, or find a viewpoint and watch the sunset over the city.
Great photo spots: Alfama, Tram 28, and Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara.
