Hi, I’m Fleur, Marketing Manager at StaffTraveler.  Last summer, I had the incredible opportunity to explore Slovenia and Croatia, two breathtaking destinations filled with stunning landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture. From the charming streets of Ljubljana to the crystal-clear waters of the Croatian coast, this journey was nothing but unforgettable. In this blog, I’ll take you through a two-week itinerary, sharing the best places to visit  and must-do experiences to make the most of your trip. Let’s dive in!

Slovenia

My journey began in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. I spent one night here, strolling through the cobblestone streets of the old city center. One of my favorite experiences was taking the funicular up to Ljubljana Castle— the sunset views over the city were absolutely magical.

Next, I made my way to the iconic Lake Bled, and wow—it’s every bit as beautiful as it looks in the photos. I spent a night here and it was absolutely worth it. If you are there, definitely go for a swim and walk around the lake at sunset. Oh, and don’t forget to try Kremšnita, a very tasty Slovenian cake!

Just a short drive from Bled, there was Lake Bohinj. It’s quieter and perfect if you want to escape the crowds and be in nature for a night. Here, you can just unwind, swim and kayak.

From the lakes, I headed to the coast, spending a night in the lovely town of Piran. With its Venetian-style architecture and Mediterranean vibe, it felt like I was in Italy. I strolled through the old town, watched a stunning sunset over the sea, and had some great seafood.

Croatia

Crossing into Croatia, I made a quick stop in Zagreb, Croatia’s vibrant capital. I was supposed to go straight from Piran to the Plitvice Lakes, but unfortunately, I missed the last bus. However, staying a night in Zagreb was no punishment. I explored the historic Upper Town and walked around a lot.

The next day, I traveled to Plitvice Lakes National Park from Zagreb, and honestly, it left me speechless. With 16 lakes, endless waterfalls, and wooden walkways winding through the forest, it’s straight out of a fantasy. I stayed one night, but wished I had more time. Pro tip: arrive early to beat the crowds and soak in the beauty once its still quiet.

Next stop: Split, a buzzing coastal city that blends ancient history with modern energy. I walked around Diocletian’s Palace, an ancient Roman fortress that’s now a vibrant part of the city, with shops, restaurants, and even homes integrated into the ruins. Afterward, I hit the beach for some relaxation. If you’ve got time, I highly recommend a day trip to nearby islands like Hvar or Brač.

I wrapped up my journey in Dubrovnik, and let me tell you—it’s every bit as magical as it looks in the photos. I spent two nights there, with both days wandering through the charming streets, unwinding at the beach, and ending each evening with a delicious dinner in the heart of the city.
