As an Amsterdam local and a coffee lover, I’ve got you covered when you’re searching for a good cup of coffee or just a cozy place to unwind. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Amsterdam’s coffee scene is full of unique and cozy spots. Here’s a list of 7 must-visit coffee shops that combine amazing brews with a welcoming atmosphere.

Our Recommended Coffee Spots

Scandinavian Embassy

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m obsessed with cinnamon buns so this spot had to come first! They have multiple locations, including one in De Pijp. Their coffee is excellent, and the atmosphere is very Scandinavian. If you visit the De Pijp location, you can also grab a takeaway and enjoy a stroll through Sarphati Park!

Rise Bakery

Rise Bakery is also located in De Pijp, this neighborhood really is full of amazing cafés! It’s a bit hidden, on the same street as the famous Albert Cuyp Market. This bakery is absolutely worth a visit, with excellent cinnamon buns, brownies, and, of course, great coffee!

De Oosterling

De Oosterling is a cozy café located on Utrechtse Straat. On sunny days, you can enjoy the terrace, and when it’s rainy, the indoor seating is just as inviting. They serve coffee, tea, lunch, and cake but don’t expect iced matcha with oat milk or banana bread here.

Cafe de Magere Brug

Café de Magere Brug is located right along the Amstel, offering a beautiful waterside view. It’s a cozy spot to enjoy a coffee or tea while watching the boats go by. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, making it a perfect stop for a peaceful break in the city.

Five Ways Coffee Roasters

Five Ways is a specialty coffee spot with multiple locations, including one in Amsterdam East and another in West. They roast their own beans, so you can always expect high-quality, well-crafted coffee. The cafés have a bright, modern feel, perfect for getting some work done, meeting a friend, or just enjoying a really good cup of coffee. If you love trying different beans and brews, this is definitely a place you shouldn’t skip.

Coffee District Willemparksweg

This spot serves excellent coffee and amazing cinnamon buns. There isn’t much seating available, but it’s perfect for grabbing a coffee to-go and taking a walk through the nearby Vondelpark. A great choice if you love good coffee and a cozy stroll.

Coffee Bru

Coffee Bru is located in the eastern part of Amsterdam and is the perfect spot to take a break. On sunny days you can sit outside on the terrace, and laptops are welcome inside, so it’s also a great place for a work session. With Oosterpark just around the corner, grabbing a takeaway coffee for a walk is always an option. They serve really good coffee, delicious matchas, and a nice selection of pastries.
