Lines… they are no one’s favorite. The least you can do is try to make the best out of it. Here are 6 things you can do to optimize the waiting!

  1. Plan some activities to do on your trip!

While some have a full itinerary to follow on holiday, most just see what the day brings and relax. However, a little bit of planning never hurt anyone! It won’t be the first time that tourists arrive at a sightseeing spot not knowing it is closed or already fully booked. Besides, you’ll see that a lot of the time pre-bought tickets will save you some money, which you can use to treat yourself on a delicious drink afterwards!

  1. Improve your people skills

We all know waiting in lines is no fun, so why not make it a little more amusing. Even though it might be a bit scary, try to make a conversation! The whole point of doing it is to feel better after than we did before. Although it might not feel like it initially, most people will be happy to have a little conversation and do something. So don’t be afraid! Maybe you’ll even make a new friend!

  1. Make a grocery list

It may sound a little stupid, but do you know how much time you can save doing groceries with a list? Things can be hard to find in a new supermarket in a different country. Especially if you have no idea what to eat and when. Spend the time in line to prepare a list so you don’t have to stroll around endlessly in your local food market. The earlier you’re done, the earlier you can take a dip in the pool and enjoy that cocktail you’ve been waiting for.

  1. Reorganize your suitcase

You might get some weird looks, but it could save you a lot of time. It is not the first time someone has been held up at customs because their bag is too heavy or even at security because there are things that don’t belong in their luggage. Take this time to double-check if everything is alright and if this isn’t the case; put on an extra layer or change something in your hand luggage if it might spare you some kilos. Believe me, you’ll be happy if you do so!

  1. Watch some Netflix!

You don’t have to be super productive in line; take the time to relax! You’ve probably had a busy day preparing for your trip, so focus on something else for a bit. If you have nothing downloaded, don’t worry, most airports have free Wi-Fi. Enough movies to choose from! If you rather want to look around a bit, listen to an audiobook or some music!

  1. Catch up on the news!

If you had read the news you would have probably known that airports are jam-packed with lines moving slowly in a zig-zag through the terminal. What is the destination of your travel destination though? While standing in line, this question probably popped up, so take the time to do a little research. This way, you’ll be able to make a guess when to leave for the airport, and maybe it’ll even spare you that extra hour at the pool!

Get into line!
