A new decade means that it’s now time to go over some ideas for travel destinations. With a world full of culture and diversity it might be a good idea to get some inspiration for your next non-rev adventure! We’ve decided to start a new series for the first few months of 2020 and provide you with a few travel goals to hit before the year ends and we’re thinking to start with the 7 wonders of the world!

7. Chichen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico

Mexico houses one of the world wonders in its Yucatan region. This area is very accessible with Cancun being a very popular destination for travelers in Mexico.

The Chichen Itza (built-in around 600 AD) is one of the few structures that are still standing from the Mayans who inexplicably disappeared in the ninth century. It’s believed that this area was a place people would make a pilgrimage to when the Mayans ruled. Now it’s one of the most visited archeological sites in the world and is a great world wonder and a wonderful one to see!

6. Christ the Redeemer, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

Also in the Americas is the Christ the Redeemer statue located in Brazi, Rio de Janeiro to be exact. We’ve covered this in our 24 Hours in Rio de Janeiro post. We even go over how to squeeze the Christ the Redeemer statue in!

This statue was built in the 1920s and stands at almost 100 feet tall! It’s the most iconic item in Rio and its size, location, and beauty make it the 6th item on our list!

5. The Colosseum, Rome, Italy

Moving out of the Americas and into Europe, we find ourselves in Rome looking at one of the most beautiful structures on Earth. Used as a theatre to host battles and a place of public display. It was even able to redirect water from the nearby aqueducts and flood for naval battles! The Colosseum was built in about 70 AD and has been standing since… at least mostly. After being struck by Earthquakes, the structure has suffered some damage and the marble that once covered the building was stripped to make cement for the Vatican.

Even so, this still makes the list of one of the world’s wonders and is worth a spot in your 2020 travel list!

4. Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China has been worked on for over 2500 years and has been worked on by multiple dynasties. It has been built to aid ward off invaders and is about 13,170 miles long (21,196 kilometers)!

We think that The Great Wall of China one of the most incredible works of collaboration in the world to construct something this large (think about the last time a road was constructed in your hometown). Overall, it’s needed over one million workers to complete!

3. Machu Pichu, Peru

One of the most amazing world wonders, Machu Pichu is an old window into a rarely seen Incan past. This observatory (yes, it was built for science!) was under construction during the time that the Americas were being colonized and it was a stroke of luck that it wasn’t discovered by the conquistadors. Machu Pichu is at the top of a mountain with an amazing view of the forest floor below and the sky above. A must-see for those who are looking to see the world wonders!

2. Petra, Wadi Musa, Jordan

One of our personal desires is to visit Petra! Located in a cliff on the desert, Petra was a city and is also a graveyard was built to honor the sun. It’s also a Unesco Heritage site and was devastated by a massive earthquake in the 5th century AD.

Although the only remaining structure is a building called “The Treasury” it’s an amazing room that provides a portal to the past. Even though it’s actually a cemetery!

1. Taj Mahal, Agra, India

Finally, on our list we put the Taj Mahal. This structure is relatively new compared to some of our other entries but it’s stunning. And it was built as a tomb and to honor Shah Jahan’s favorite wife. Constructed with marble and 240 feet tall, it’s one of the world’s most extravagant and breathtaking structures ever built!

We’re all admiring the Taj Mahal and are trying to plan our trip to India to visit!

Not sure where to go? Take a trip to one of these classic world wonders and check this item off your bucket list!
