Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has started testing new scanners for hand luggage that allows you to keep large electronic devices and liquids in your baggage. While today you still have to put your laptop and liquids in a separate basket, this new technology can identify them from within the bag.

The software in the new ClearScan scanners makes it possible for the security staff to turn the contents of the hand baggage 360 degrees on all axes on a screen, allowing them to view it from all angles and closely inspect it for prohibited items.

If everything goes according to plan and the pilot project is completed successfully, in 2017 and 2018 Schiphol will gradually introduce these new and innovative hand baggage scanning devices in all 67 security lanes.
